We don’t track you.
This is the whole policy, in plain language. It describes what this website actually does — not what a template says a website might do.
Cookies
This site sets no cookies. Not for analytics, not for advertising, not for sessions. There is no cookie banner obligation to speak of, because there are no cookies to consent to.
We show a notice anyway, because we would rather tell you plainly than leave you guessing. Its buttons say analytics, not cookies, because that is honestly all they govern: if we ever add analytics, your choice decides whether it applies to you. Until you make one, the answer is treated as no.
If you do choose, we remember it by storing a single value (“allowed” or “rejected”) in your browser’s local storage. That value stays on your device. It is never sent to us, and it identifies nothing about you. Clearing your browser data removes it.
Analytics and trackers
There are none. No Google Analytics, no advertising or conversion pixels, no session recording, no heatmaps, no embedded social widgets, no chat bubble, no consent-management platform. Nothing you do on this site is measured or reported.
Our fonts are served from our own server rather than a font CDN, so simply loading a page doesn’t announce your visit to a third party. The only outside link on the site is to getostler.com (opens in a new tab), and you have to click it.
The contact form
If you send us a message, we receive what you typed: your name, your email address, the topic you picked, and the message itself. We use it to reply to you and to talk about the work you’re describing.
It reaches us as an email, delivered through Resend (opens in a new tab), an email service that handles the sending on our behalf. What you submit passes through them in order to arrive. They are the only third party that sees it.
To keep the form from being used for spam, the server also notes the times of recent submissions in a small file on disk, labelled with a one-way hash of the sending IP address rather than the address itself. It holds no name, message, or email — only timestamps — and entries older than ten minutes are dropped.
We don’t sell your message, share it further, or add you to a mailing list. It sits in our email like any other correspondence. Ask us to delete it and we will.
Hosting and server logs
The site is hosted by Hostinger and served through their content delivery network. Like essentially every web server, it keeps standard access logs recording things like the IP address making a request, the page requested, and the browser’s user-agent string.
These exist to keep the site running and to investigate abuse. They aren’t used to build a profile of you, we don’t combine them with anything else, and we don’t consult them in the ordinary course of things. This is the unavoidable baseline of putting a page on the internet, not a choice we made to collect something.
If this changes
If we ever add analytics or anything else that observes how the site is used, we’ll say so here before it goes live, and the choice in the notice will govern it. A policy that quietly grows new powers isn’t worth reading.
Questions
Ask through the contact form on the homepage and a person will answer. That includes anything about accessibility — if part of this site doesn’t work for you, we want to know.
